Good Day my fellow bloggers, and welcome to my blog that just makes a whole lot of cents. This is a web log (a blog, for those of you who don't remember its name origination) all about the Goldman Sachs Group Inc. ...or simply put, Goldman Sachs.
Goldman Sachs (GS) has been around longer than your parents, your grandparents, and even longer than your Sociology Professor. It was founded in 1869 by the German Marcus Goldman. The company has changed drastically since then. Currently it operates three major divisions.
1. Investment Banking
2. Trading and Principle Investments
3. Asset Management and Security Services.
The company, which has roughly 14,000 employees, has been under much scrutiny over the past 4 years. The economic crisis as well as some disputed gift-giving has severely damaged their reputation. In the past year alone their stock price has a low of $47.41 and a high of $185.80 which is right around where it currently stands.
With its reputation clearly hanging by mere threads, Goldman Sachs have gotten out in the community. It has several community oriented programs that promotes (actually even pays) its employees to go out and assist local non-profit organizations. Maybe this is why their number 9 on Forbes 2009 list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For. Their employees get paid to do good deeds....and get out of the office!
Although they may be rated one of the best companies to work for, their workers (especially in the PR department) have quite the burden of having to consistenly repair and rebuild the image they once had before the economic crisis of the past year.
Stay tuned as we'll delve into the many reasons as to why Goldman Sachs are working so hard to repair their image.
